Academic Framework for Innovation (AFI)

Learning Outcomes

A leaning outcomes approach puts the focus on what the student will know, understand or be able to demonstrate on completion of a programme of study and uses this as the determinant for course content, learning activities and assessment.

In DCU Learning Outcomes describe the knowledge, skills and competencies that a typical learner is expected to demonstrate upon successful completion of a process of learning.

AFI Fellowships

Each DCU School appointed one or more AFI Fellows to act as a point of contact and mentor in relation to any questions or concerns experienced when writing module learning outcomes.

The role of the AFI fellow is to marry a knowledge and overview of learning outcomes with their own disciplinary expertise to help their colleagues in the restructuring process in a way which is best suited for each discipline, i.e. to act as a local point of call for information and advice. S/he is not expected to (re)write programme or module descriptors, or design teaching and/or assessment schemes, on behalf of other colleagues.
