Synthesis and Structure in Chemistry
Synthesis and structures of novel organic systems for molecular recognition and medicinal chemistry with a special emphasis on benzamides, substituted benzamides, phthalimidines, fenamates and related classes of organic molecules for application in the treatment of neurological disease: a particular emphasis is currently on series of isomer grids. Structural research is currently directed towards understanding aggregation (via hydrogen bonding interactions) and the interactions of small molecules with biological hosts. Dr. John F. Gallagher is currently a Co-Editor of Acta Crystallographica Section C, http://journals.iucr.org or http://www.iucr.org and several recent IUCr publications are hosted at the website http://doras.dcu.ie
Our research is currently focused on the following areas:
- Synthesis and structure of benzamides {e.g. (I)} and substituted benzamides, (I) for application as K + channel inhibitors.
- Organometallic materials based on ferrocene and substituted pyridines,
- Crystal Engineering and structural studies of: (a) porphyrin precursors, (b) phthalimidines and (c) fenamates.
