Academic biography

MARTIN G MOLONY is a lecturer at Dublin City University. Based at the School of Communications, he is Programme Director of DCU’s MSc in Public Relations & Strategic Communications. A genealogist, puppeteer and former journalist, his teaching has included modules in interpersonal communications, public relations, political communication and puppetry. His research interest is in Irish social history, with a focus on the history of the puppet theatre in Ireland, on which he is currently completing his PhD.

Lecturer at DCU's School of Communications, teaching a variety of modules in communication, journalism and public relations at undergraduate and postgraduate level. Also designed and delivered communication-related modules in DCUBS, the School of Nursing and the School of Computing.

A former Deputy Head of School and Teaching & Learning Convenor, as well as service on on many university committees and working groups, including Operational Excellence Working Group, Education Committee, Academic Council, Teaching & Learning, Marketing, Disability Admissions, Virtual & Online Learning, Admissions and Student Fees Finance Controls.

An effective communicator, on an interpersonal basis, within groups and to large audiences. An experienced speaker, confident, persuasive and with presence. Familiar with the challenges of communicating through a variety of oral, written and electronic media.

An experienced trainer, with over twenty years as a university lecturer, including vocational training in communication skills, media technologies and journalism practice. This experience has been supplemented by considerable training exposure in the business, professional and voluntary sectors.

A skilled project manager, having worked in management positions in media, computing and retail sectors, with an acute awareness of deadlines and a personal disposition suited to motivating individuals and facilitating teamwork.

Worked with individuals and organisations in delivering effective communication courses and workshops, including the Garda Síochána, the Irish Cancer Society, the Law Society of Ireland, Rotary International, RTE and Teagasc. The subject areas include communication skills, social media and media relations, but the common thread across all of this training is effective communication.
