Research in the DCU School of Computing

The School of Computing at Dublin City University provides a lively, supportive environment for research in many areas of computing. The School currently has over 70 research postgraduate students and a wide range of currently funded research projects at national and international level. Research within the school is divided into four main research groupings:

  • Dependable Systems
  • Modelling & Scientific Computing
  • Information Management
  • Language & Intelligence

The School houses part of the Centre for Digital Video Processing (CDVP), the National Centre for Language Technology (NCLT), and the Biocomputation arm of the National Institute for Cellular Biotechnology.

Research is funded by national and international agencies including Science Foundation Ireland (SFI), Enterprise Ireland (EI), the Higher Education Authority (HEA), the Irish Research Council for Science, Engineering and Technology (IRCSET), Teagasc, Bord Iascaigh Mhara, the Department of Education and Science, and the E.U. Sixth Framework Programme.

The School enjoys close links with industry, and this is evidenced in the significant number of research collaborations it has forged with such companies as IBM, Sun Microsystems, Xerox, Mitsubishi Electric Research Labs, and Ericsson.

Scholarship Opportunities

The School of Computing offers a number of scholarship and studentship opportunities each year for graduates wishing to undertake full-time postgraduate research. Prospective students are enouraged to contact staff members directly to ascertain if funding is currently available for projects in their chosen research area.

All postgraduate research applications made for commencement BEFORE 1st September 2024 will be processed through the DCU student application portal.

All postgraduate research applications made for commencement AFTER 1st September 2024, will require the applicant to complete a pre-application form. Once this form has been reviewed, the applicant will sent information via email around how to progress their application to DCU.
