In addition, students on the Electronic Systems and Telecommunications programmes may decide to focus their field of study into any of three unique areas.

If you are ambitious, want to stay abreast of new developments, wish to enhance your qualifications, are prepared to commit time to personal development and yet have limited opportunity for on-campus attendance, then this programme structure is designed for you.  You can take courses remotely over the WEB - the distance learning option, attend lectures on-campus, or mix and match combining on-campus and distance learning to suit your particular circumstances.

 For Web-based modules, courses can be studied via the Internet using online notes, e-mail, e-Conferencing, online assessments, tutorials and so on.  For more information, please visit the following: 

The programmes have two intakes each year, one in September and one in February.

Entry Requirements

Direct Access to M.Eng in Electronic Systems/M.Eng in Telecommunications Engineering requires a minimum H2.2 in electronic/electrical engineering, applied physics or computer science.

Masters Qualifier (1 year pre-Masters course) requires a pass in a Level 8 Bachelor degree in a relevant discipline OR (in exceptional circumstances) a strong result in a Level 7 programme plus a miniumum 3 years’ relevant experience. The candidate must also demonstrate at interview that their qualifications and experience are satisfactory preparation for the programme. Successful completion of the Masters Qualifier allows entry to the M.Eng in Electronic Systems/M.Eng in Telecommunications)

  Latest News
  • Induction - New Students Semester 2 2011/2012 - New students on any of the Masters programmes are invited to an Induction Session, scheduled to take place in XG15 on Monday 6th of February at 1pm-2pm. The induction session will consist of a short presentation on the programmes, followed by a question and answer session with the programme chair. In total it should take less than an hour, as some students will be attending their first lecture at 2pm (depending on subject selections). XG15 is located on the ground floor of the Science building. See the campus map for location details.

  • Semester 2 2011/2012 - - Semester 2 lectures begin on Monday 6th February 2012. The *draft* timetable can be found here - Semester 2 Timetable. When reading the room numbers of a timetable, the first letter relates to "which building", the second character relates to "which floor" (B-basement,G-ground, 1-2-3 for floors) and the remaining two characters relate to the room number on that floor. The character keys to the buildings can be found at: Campus Map
    Note: The lecture for EE417 on February 6th is canceled - more information can be found at the EE417 course website.
     
  • Induction - New Students Semester 1 2011/2012 - New students on any of the Masters programmes are invited to an Induction Session, scheduled to take place in C114 on Monday 26th of September at 9am-10am. The induction session will consist of a short presentation on the programmes, followed by a question and answer session with the programme chair. In total in should take less than an hour, as some students will be attending their first lecture at 10am (depending on subject selections).   • Semester 1 2011/2012 - Lectures begin again on Monday 26th September 2011. The *draft* timetable can be found here - Semester 1 Timetable. This timetable is a work-in-progress and will only be finalised approximately two weeks before the beginning of semester.   • New Students Semester 1 2011/2012 - Welcome to our new students who are registering for the first time. Information will be sent to these students from the school in relation to a range of aspects of the programme. The chair of the taught masters programmes is Dr. Gabriel Muntean and he has responsibility for dealing with any academic issues you might have during your studies in DCU.

  • Lecture Timetables 2011/2012 - Timetables are typically made available about two weeks before the beginning of each semester. Previous to this, the timetable may be the previous year's timetable (which is indicative of the layout for the forthcoming year).

  •  The Graduate Skills Transfer Programme has been confirmed for this academic year (2011/2012) and is subject to annual review.  EU Students  may avail of a vastly reduced fee (€ 2,750 in 2011/2012) under this scheme. It is hoped that this scheme will be continued into further years and information will be placed on the website as soon as it is available.  
     
  • Notes Access Regardless of whether students are taking modules via an on-campus/remote/hybrid mechanism, they will be set up with online access to notes after registration.  However, notes will only be made available by lecturers following the first day of physical lectures for that module.  Please ensure that you are using your DCU email address, as this is the primary mechanism for communication used for all programmes.
