PEI Technologies
research information
PEI Technologies was formerly known as Power Electronics Ireland, one of several Government
sponsored Programmes of Advanced Technology (PAT) established in centres on university
campuses throughout Ireland. These are intended to:
- provide innovative technological support to Irish industry
- support postgraduate research in the host university
A PEI Technologies Design Centre has been at DCU since 1989, specialising in the area of
power electronics, analogue electronics and instrumentation design. The centre is staffed by
three full-time employees and up to four postgraduate students and works with Irish and European
industries on the design of new commercial products. The centre director is Mr. Jim Dowling.
These staff engineers have considerable experience in the area of product design for power
electronics and instrumentation. Access to DCU facilities and resources, particularly for
engineering and scientific consultation, is a major benefit to the centre and with significant
capital investment in recent years the centre is well equipped to undertake a wide range of
projects. Projects undertaken to date include:
- Sensor design
- Sensor and actuator modelling
- Pump controller design
- Gas mass flow controller design
- Gas sensor monitor design
- Power supply product design
- DC/DC converter characterisation
- Motor Control
