Overall Result Calculation for the M.Eng. Programmes
| Weighting per Mod. | Credits per Mod. | |
|---|---|---|
| Taught Modules (8 to be completed) | 1 | 7.5 |
| Project Module | 3.5 | 30 |
| Total Weightings for M.Eng Programme: | 11.5 | - |
| Total Credits for M.Eng. Programme: | 90 | - |
To complete the Masters programme, you must complete eight (8) taught modules and one (1) project module (as an aside, the taught modules are worth 7.5 credits each, and the project 30 credits).
The eight taught modules are weighted at 1 each and the project at 3.5. The overall mark for the programme is a weighted aggregate mark, calculated as follows:
As the taught modules are weighted at 1, we just add the actual results in each module together (i.e. this is the same as multiplying each individual actual module result by 1, and then adding all 8 together) - let's call this SUBTOTAL (A).
We then multiply the actual project mark by 3.5 - let's call this SUBTOTAL (B).
We then add SUBTOTAL (A) to (B) and divide by 11.5 (i.e. the total number of weightings for the entire programme, being eight (8) taught mods. x 1, plus the project module x 3.5 = 11.5).
This is the weighted aggregate mark for the overall programme. The award classifications for the M.Eng are as follows:
PASS : 40 - 59%
H2 : 60 - 69%
H1 : 70 - 100%
Repeating/Resitting a Module
If you repeat/resit a postgrad module examination, and say get an actual result of ‘70’, you will see the ‘70’ on your transcript, but for the calculation of the overall programme result, we can only use your first attempt for the module.
