About Us

Fiontar is an interdisciplinary school which combines the Irish language with contemporary issues, with information technology and current best management practice. Since its establishment in 1993, the school has conducted its teaching and research through the medium of Irish. It has grown substantially to now provide innovative, interdisciplinary Irish-medium undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Fiontar graduates are well regarded throughout the world, in attractive careers in financial and software companies; in the private and public sectors; and in the Irish language sector.

Postgraduate students have the opportunity to participate in the various research projects conducted by Fiontar staff, in management, entrepreneurship, information technology and in particular in terminology and the digital humanities. A team of terminologists and IT specialists has developed the national terminology database for Irish, Focal.ie, and the placenames database of Ireland, Logainm.ie, developed in conjunction with Foras na Gaeilge and the Placenames Branch. There are many reasons to come to Fiontar. The campus has excellent IT resources and the School’s dedicated computer labs provide students with a communal space to work. Fiontar’s staff provide a friendly supportive learning environment for students through small stimulating classes which foster students’ self-confidence.
