This conference will be held the week before the ISO TC37 meeting in Dublin. The conference is being organised by Fiontar, DCU and the Association for Terminology and Knowledge Transfer (GTW), in cooperation with Termnet and other associations and consortia, national and international organisations.

CONFERENCE TOPICS AND AIM

This conference is about the promotion of knowledge and technology transfer for special language communication on the basis of terminological procedures and data. It will focus in particular on the theme of presenting terminology and knowledge engineering resources online.

The following questions might be discussed:

  • How should terminology and knowledge engineering resources look?
  • Who are terminology and knowledge engineering resources for?
  • How can terminology and knowledge engineering resources be introduced to their publics?
  • How can we analyse and improve the use and implantation of terminology and knowledge engineering resources?
  • What models outside the discipline are there for the presentation of terminology and knowledge engineering resources?

The discussion might cover such themes as:

  • Terminology from the user's perspective
  • Ontologies and concept systems
  • Classification systems and thesauri
  • Taxonomies and metadata taxonomies
  • Data elements and data categories
  • Metamodels
  • Knowledge extraction and terminology extraction
  • Terminology in e-government and sector standardization
  • Terminology policies
  • Terminology for language planning
  • LSP and corporate lexicography
  • Teaching and learning terminology and lexicography
  • Information extraction and retrieval
  • Content development, content maintenance and updating mechanisms
  • Semantic interoperability under the requirements of multilinguality and multimodality

The aim of this conference is to bring together researchers from these related fields, provide an overview of the state-of-the-art, discuss problems and opportunities, and exchange information regarding the topics mentioned above. TKE 2010 will also cover applications, ongoing and planned activities, industrial uses and needs, as well as requirements coming from the new e-society.
