Health4Life Conference 2006

Held May 31 - June 2 at the School of Nursing, Dublin City University

About the Conference

Health4Life represents the evolving and vibrant inter-professional research portfolio of the School of Nursing at Dublin City University. It incorporates an exciting range of over-arching research topic clusters, each with a number of research programmes and embedded projects as follows:

  • Clinical Judgement and Decision-Making

  • Psycho-Social Health

  • Education Processes

  • Care and Presence

  • Parasite Immune Modulation

The Mission of Health4Life is to: Promote inter-professional and inter-organisational research Push the boundaries in research innovation Enhance meaningful links between research, theory and practice Promote quality training and support for researchers

This conference involved the launch of the Health4Life portfolio and had four distinct components which ran concurrently over 3 days:

Keynote Speaker & Health4Life Research Project Presentations, Wednesday May 31st

Conference: Recent Research with Children in Ireland: Challenges and Implications, Thursday June 1st

The objectives of this conference were:

  • To provide an overview of current research on children’s health and illness in Ireland

  • To highlight the challenges involved in consulting and undertaking research with children

  • To provide insight into the methodologies available for researching children

  • To discuss how to implement research into practice 

Conference: Bioethics and Biosciences: Where is Technology Taking Us? Friday June 2nd

Joint Hosts: School of Nursing and Biomedical Diagnostics Institute

The objectives of this conference were:

  • To bring together members of the scientific, healthcare and bioethical communities

  • To examine two specific technologies: point-of care diagnostic devices and stem cell research

  • To address scientific issues, breakthroughs, challenges and ethical issues To facilitate discussion among panel and audience in a participative manner

Research Methodology Master classes, Thursday June 1st and Friday June 2nd

The objectives of the methodology master classes included:

  • To provide a critical overview of a range of research methodologies and their application to practice settings

  • To examine the challenges inherent in conducting research in contemporary society

  • To explore innovative research methods
