Procedures for Invitation of Government Minister to DCU
Introduction
This document is an outline of the agreed procedures and protocols for the invitation of a government Minister (including An Taoiseach) to a DCU event. This includes DCU events on campus as well as in other geographic locations. Please note that this is the ONLY method for invitation of such public figures.
Process
The overall process for the invitation of a Minister is as follows:
- Individual or group decide on the appropriateness for the involvement of a member of the government in a DCU-related event, permission within School/faculty, and the online request form for the invitation is filled in and sent.
- When this form is ‘sent' it relays a copy to both Public Affairs and to the President's Office.
- The President's Office will review, to decide on whether the President or Deputy President need to be involved in the visit. The President's Office will then liaise with Public Affairs and where appropriate will issue the invitation via official letter to the Minister involved.
- The President's Office will report back via Public Affairs and Public Affairs will alert the Head to the development (invitation or no invitation).
- Public Affairs will liaise with both the President's Office and the relevant school/centre/unit on dates, timing, location and overall logistics.
