Notifiable Illnesses and Conditions
All students suffering from the following categories of illnesses and conditions are required to notify the Health Centre within one week of registration, or, in the case of returning students, immediately following diagnosis:
- any illness which require maintenance treatment (e.g. asthma, diabetes, epilepsy);
- infectious diseases (e.g. infective hepatitis, sexually transmitted diseases);
- congenital abnormalities (e.g. congenital heart disease, haemophilia);
Please note that this is a formal University regulation which is binding on all students. Its purpose is to enable the Health Centre to provide adequate care for all University members, and to protect University members from possible health risks. Please note also that the examples of illnesses and conditions given above are not necessarily comprehensive; all illnesses or conditions which fall within the general descriptions must be reported. All Health Centre records will be treated in strict confidence, and will be retained in the Health Centre; they will not form part of the general University student records.
Medical Examination of Students
The University reserves the right to require any student to undergo a medical examination in the interest of the health or safety of University members. Such examination may be in a medical centre or by a medical practitioner specified by the University. Failure to undergo such an examination, or to achieve a satisfactory report, can result in exclusion from University lectures, examinations, and other academic exercises and/or exclusion from the campus. The University also reserves the right to require any applicant to undergo and pass a medical examination as a condition of entry. While the University will not require applicants or students to undergo medical examinations as a matter of course, it does reserve the right, for serious reasons, to require such an examination.
