Door Signs for Staff Offices

Holders are provided on the doors of each office. To speed up the process of amending signs a template is provided for
each of the three variants of the sign which will be needed.

  • Older buildings, Henry Grattan, DCUBS etc. where the doors have a separate plate to show the room number. In this case the signs only need the University Logo, the occupier''s name and department.

  • The "X" block where there are no separate rooms numbers. In this case the sign must include the room number
but the sign holder is not the full width of an A4 landscape page. Click here for the template.
  • The "S" block where the sign will incorporate the room number and where the holders are the exact width of an
A4 landscape page. Click here for the template.

The following conventions should apply:

  • For Professors names should be prefixed "Prof" and "An t-Olll" for names in Irish.
  • For Doctorates the Prefix "Dr" should be used in English and "An Dr." for names in Irish.
  • Other names in English should be prefixed "Mr" or "Ms" as appropriate. Other names in Irish should NOT include a prefix.

The purpose of all signs is to provide appropriate information. While the general pattern of signs should be maintained
Schools and Units may put whatever they consider appropriate on their signs. Even signs, which simply say "Private", are
acceptable.

If possible use colour and retain the colour scheme set out in the templates. If a colour printer is not available signs may
be printed in Black and white.

Note: Accented letters in Irish are obtained by pressing "Alt Gr" with the letter or "Ctrl" + "Alt" with the letter.

Fitting the signs:

  • It will be necessary to trim the signs to fit the holders.
  • In the case of some of the older holders it may be necessary to remove a screw in order to replace the sign.
  • In the case of other holders they have been designed to allow the signs to be easily replaced. Some pressure
may be needed to remove the covers to make a replacement. Do not be afraid that you may damage the holders!
  • In most of the existing signs a heavy type of transparent plastic was used. This makes it less easy to replace the sign. A supply of lighter covers is available from Education Services which may be used to make it easier to change the signs in
    future.
