Dr Ruth Mattimoe
Biographical Details:
Ruth Mattimoe, B.A.(Mod.)(Chemistry), (TCD), Dip. Stats.(TCD), FCA, Ph.D. (Manchester) lectures in Management Accounting and Financial Statement Analysis. A recipient of the Institute of Physics' Silver Medal in Physics for First Place in Ireland in Leaving Certificate Physics and an Entrance scholarship to Trinity College Dublin, initially, she pursued a career in science. Graduating in Organic Chemistry from TCD, winning en route, the Kingsmill Jones Memorial prize in Foundation Scholarship Examination and a Senior Lecturer prize for First Class Honours, she qualified as a chartered accountant obtaining second place in Ireland in the Prof.Two examination. Her PhD at the Manchester School of Accounting and Finance under Prof.Bob Scapens was awarded a CIMA Research Foundation Ph.d grant. This grant was aimed at supporting new and upcoming researchers within the management accounting arena, following successful completion of First Year of doctoral studies ¿- only 5 universities in the UK nominated their doctoral students for this grant. At the recent IAM conference in Cork in September 2010, her paper won the Failte Ireland prize for the best paper in the Tourism Track. As lead researcher, she has recently been awarded a CIMA grant for research into UK hotels and restaurants 'The Role of the Accountant and Best Practice Management Accounting Techniques in the Hospitality Industry'with her co-researcher, Prof. Will Seal of The Business School, Loughborough University. She has recently been awarded a Failte Ireland Applied Industry Fellowship 2008/09. At the recent Irish Academy of Management Conference in Cork Institute of Technology, 1-3 September 2010, her paper was awarded the Failte Ireland prize for the best paper in the Tourism Track.
