Dr. Derek Molloy is a Lecturer in the School of Electronic Engineering, Faculty of Engineering & Computing at Dublin City University. He lectures in Object-oriented Programming, 3D Computer Graphics and Digital Electronics at postgraduate and undergraduate levels. His research interests are in the fields of Computer & Machine Vision, 3D Graphics & Visualisation and e-Learning. He is a key academic member of the Centre for Image Processing and Analysis (CIPA) at DCU. Derek Molloy studied for his B.Eng. (Hons) degree at Dublin City University with the aid of a scholarship from Amdahl Corporation. During his degree he began an 'Accelerated Masters' programme in the research field of Computer and Machine Vision, dealing with motion analysis and description. This work was awarded the I.E.E. young paper award for 1994 and was a finalist in the I.E.I. student paper competition of the same year. In 1996 he became a full-time Assistant Lecturer in the School of Electronic Engineering and was promoted to full-time Lecturer in 1999. In 2000 he completed a Ph.D. thesis dealing with motion information in computer vision, entitled "Motion Analysis using Active-Meshes". During this period he was a founding member of: the Innovative Teaching Group, which evolved into the Virtual Community Project; and, the Postgraduate Research Records Committee. His current key roles are: Supervising 8 Ph.D./M.Eng. research students (3 in association with I.T. Tallaght), Key Faculty Member of the Centre for Image Processing & Analysis (CIPA) and investigator on the National Biophotonics & Imaging Platform Ireland (NBIPI) Academic Framework for Innovation (AFI) School Fellow Member of the University Budget Committee, Lecturer in Object-oriented Programming and 3D Computer Graphics at postgraduate level, and Digital Electronics at Undergraduate level, Technical Assessor for IDA (RD&I) and Enterprise Ireland (R&D Fund) applications.
