Biographical Details:

As an undergraduate at UCD, I studied Philosophy and History, before majoring in Linguistics and German Language and Literature. I then lectured in English Language and Literature at Aaachen University and later worked as a staff translator for Daimler-Benz in Stuttgart. After the H.Dip. Ed at TCD, I taught English and German in a secondary school in Ireland and then returned to UCD to do my MA in Austrian and German Literature and Culture. In DCU, I have developed modules on many aspects of translation studies. I returned to UCD in the 1990s to study Irish to BA level and helped set up the first subtitling studio in Ireland for Telegael in Spiddal prior to the founding of TG4. I completed my doctorate at DCU in audiovisual translation. I have a special interest in minority languages and audiovisual translation (subtitling and dubbing) as well as ecocriticism and children's literature.

Research Interests:

Translations studies: audiovisual translation and minority languages, esp. Irish language, literary translation, translation for children. Ecocriticism and children's literature.
