Biographical Details:

I obtained a Technicians Diploma in Applied Science (Applied Biology) and a Graduateship of the Institute of Biology (Biochemistry) at Kevin Street, Dublin Institute of Technology. I subsequently obtained a Ph.D. Cell Biology at Dublin City University. My Ph.D. was focused on Lung cell differentiation. I am currently the cell characterisation manager at the National Institute for Cellular Biotechnology, Dublin City University. My research interests have focused on establishing a corneal-limbal stem cell culture techniques for corneal epithelial replacement in Ireland for the first time in conjunction with collaborators in The Royal Victoria Eye & Ear Hospital, Dublin and the Irish Blood Transfusion Service (IBTS). This is currently technique is currently undergoing GLP/GMP evaluation at the IBTS. Current research interests include: ¿ Identifying and deciphering the interactions of limbal - corneal stem cells with the surrounding environment. ¿ Development of methods of culturing other cells of the cornea.

Research Interests:

Stem cells, control of differentiation and Tissue engieering. In particular the cell culture of Cornea-Limbal stem cells and control of differentiaton. Cell characterisation techniques such as confocal mircroscopy, and flow cytometry.
