Dr Mark Philbin
Biographical Details:
Dr Mark Philbin (RPN, RNT, DipN(Lond), BSc(Hons), MA, PhD) is a lecturer in the School of Nursing and Programme Co-ordinator for the 'BSc Health & Society' which commences in September, 2011. In 1983, he began his career in Salford, Greater Manchester where he trained as a psychiatric nurse then worked in both hospital and community mental healthcare. He moved into nurse education in 1992, working in Schools of Nursing in Salford and Dublin. Since 2002, Mark has worked in Dublin City University and his current teaching interests are focused on strengths-based approaches to health improvement, research inquiry, and suffering in the context of illness and disability.
Research Interests:
In September 2009, Mark completed his PhD which focused on how persons sustain, struggle for, and develop valued identities in the context of psychosis and psychiatric involvement. He is currently planning a programme of research around the theme of psychotropic medication and the body. Also, he has a particular interest in qualitative research methodologies and co-ordinates the Qualitative Research Summer School which is held annually in the School of Nursing.
