Dr Kate Irving
Biographical Details:
Currently working as a lecturer in mental health nursing, Dr Kate Irving has developed a research interest in dementia care over the course of her professional career. She started her career in Leeds Metropolitan University where she completed her nursing degree and registered as a nurse in 1996. After 4 years staffing on the wards in aged care she moved to Australia and commenced a PhD. Her PhD Entitled, Case studies in Restraint, highlighted the particular difficulties faced by elderly people with a mental health diagnosis after an admission to accute general medical care. This led to her interest in behaviours nurses find challenging to deal with and a search for pragmatic approaches to these challenges.
