Biographical Details:

Giles Warrington is Programme Chair of Sports Science and Health and Lecturer in Sport and Exercise Physiologist in the School of Health and Human Performance at DCU. He is also Head Sports Physiologist and Sports Science Advisor to the Olympic Council of Ireland and was a member of the medical team at the Beijing and Athens Olympic Games. Prior to taking up his academic role at DCU, he worked for 12 years at the National Coaching and Training Centre where he was Head of Player/Athlete Services. Giles was also previously employed by the British Olympic Association where he worked as an Exercise Physiologist at the British Olympic Medical Centre. For over 20 years, he has gained extensive experience working with and advising elite athletes and coaches from over 20 different sports, both Olympic and non Olympic. Giles was educated at St. Maryżs University College where he has a BSc in sports science, a Ph D. in Sport and Exercise Physiology from the University of Surrey and is also a Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine.

Research Interests:

1. Physiological limitation to elite athletic performance 2. Physiological evaluation of the elite performer 3. Factors effecting performance in weight category sports (horse racing, rowing and boxing) 4. How different environments (altitude and heat) effect athletic performance. 5. Physical fitness and exercise prescription. 6. Functional analysis in the workplace. 7. Life-long involvement in physical activity and sport (LISPA)/Long term Player/Athlete development (LTPAD).
