Research Interests:
I am interested in the sociological and democratic aspect of research, namely research processes that have direct and tangible impact on marginalised and/or disability groups under study. For the research process to be democratic these groups need to be involved at all levels of decision making including: the research topic, who carries out the research, how the research should be carried out and how research findings can be translated into meaningful action. I have experience with mental health User-led Research projects (research by, with and for service users). User-led research has empowerment at its heart and embraces the concepts of emancipatory, participatory and action research. User-led research is anti-reductionist in that it values the subjective experience. It therefore challenges dominant research methodologies providing space for other forms of knowledge to be created.
