Biographical Details:

I am a lecturer in the School of Nursing and Human Sciences. I completed my DProf (Health and Social Care) in 2011 with the University of Salford, England. My thesis was entitled "Making Sense of the Unbelievable: A Biographical Narrative Study of Men's stories of Female Abuse". In 2004 I completed an MSc (Research). The thesis was entitled "An exploration of nurses and midwives understanding and experiences of empowerment". In 2000 I completed a BNS (Hons) degree. I am a Registered General Nurse (Hons) and am the General Pathway Leader for the Undergraduate BSc in Nursing programme. I lecture on several modules on the undergraduate programme. Previously, I was a member of a joint research project "Nursing Decision Making: an Integrated Programme of Research to Maximise the Effectiveness of Clinical Nursing Resources" with UCD (2002-2005). I also was a member of the research team exploring the understanding and experiences of empowerment amongst nurses and midwives in Ireland (2001-2002). More recently, I was co-investigator for a research study examining services for women experiencing sexual violence in the North East of Ireland (2008). Presently, I am undertaking research in collaboration with Beaumont Hospital undertaking an exploratory study of the role of the nurse in the Acute Medicine Programme.
