Dr Trudy Corrigan
Biographical Details:
Coordinator and Lecturer in the School of Education Studies DCU.Trudy has recently completed studying for a Professional Doctorate in the School of Education Studies DCU. Her research interests are in developing Intergenerational Learning as a high quality pedagogical practice in higher education. This is to explore the reciprocal benefits of teaching, learning and research between generations in higher education. She was awarded a Learning Innovation Unit Research award to research the benefits of the De Bono model as a useful mediation model in the workplace. In addition she was awarded the LIU Research award to promote and develop research of the successful DCU Intergenerational Learning Project which was founded by Trudy and fellow colleagues and tutors within DCU. This was to explore the benefits of a teaching and learning space at third level where both older people could meet and learn with third level students. Trudy is interested in the concept of a stimulated mind in ageing and is currently developing research on "The Scholarship of Eldership" together with her doctoral supervisor Professor Gerry McNamara. She is interested in the role of Intergenerational Learning as a contribution to the continuing personal and professional development of third level students and as a contribution to critical thinking and reflection in third level learning. Trudy's experience has previously been in Adult Education and Professional Development both at third level and in the Colleges of Further Education. She is currently working with final year students in DCU to create and develop innovative projects that will be of benefit in educational and/or training contexts in the workplace. Her other research interests are adult education and lifelong learning. Mediation skills in the workplace and developing communities of practice in the workplace.
