Biographical Details:

Mary Farrelly (RPN, RGN, BNS(Hons), MMedSc) is a lecturer in mental health nursing. She has held a variety of clinical posts in acute and long-stay mental health settings, both in-patient and community. She has also worked in quality assurance and nursing practice development. She was project officer on the Scope of Nursing and Midwifery Practice Project with An Bord Altranais, a project that established, for the first time in Ireland, a Scope of Practice Framework for nurses and midwives. Most recently she worked a project officer with the National Council for the Professional Development of Nursing and Midwifery. Her work centred on the development of frameworks, standards and processes to establish a clinical career pathway for nurses and midwives and the development of nursing and midwifery professions.

Research Interests:

Mental health, illness and media. Development of clinical specialites and advanced practice in nursing. Patients' experiences of mental health care.
