Biographical Details:

I am a lecturer in the School of Education Studies and Co-Director of the Centre for e-Innovation and Workplace Learning, a centre that explore the enabling capacity of digital technology through the fostering of a reflective approach in developing innovation and creativity in the workplace. I joined DCU in 1997. Previously I worked in industry and also taught for five years at post-primary and tertiary level in London and five years at an international school in Brussels. I worked in the School of Computer Applications in DCU until 2002 and then moved on to the School of Education Studies. I established the MSc. in Education and Training Management (eLearning) programme in 2002. I currently chair the MSc. in Education and Training Management (eLearning) and (Leadership). I am the national coordinator for a European Seventh Framework project, 'Pathway to Inquiry Based Science Education (2010-2013) and 'Inspiring Science' (2013-2016). I spearheaded a collaboration with the Global eSchools and Communities initiative (GeSCI) which resulted in the development of a Graduate Diploma in Leadership Development in ICT and the Knowledge Society. The programme focuses on developing leadership skills and inspiring innovation to enable improvement in organisations and societies.

Research Interests:

My research interests are in the development of methodologies in the human sciences and in the field of e-learning. I am interested in the human capability to create, share and contribute to new knowledge and the use of research to improve educational practice. My research areas include: practitioner-research; action research, researching own educational practice and ethnography. pedagogy, mind brain research in education, and workplace learning. leadership development in eLearning. I am one of the founding member of the Educational Journal of Living Theories (EJOLTS) and currently the main editor of the journal. The journal is supported by Dublin City University.
