Dr Pamela Hussey
Biographical Details:
I became an academic later in my career and was a practicing nurse for twenty years. I have a PhD in Computer Science and have also completed an MEd in Education and Training Management and an MSc in Health Informatics. In 2006 i became the nursing representative of the National Standards Authority of Ireland Health Informatics Standards Consortium (NSAI HISC) and have since this time attended the ISO and CEN meetings with a particular focus on standards relating to concepts and terminology as well as the Electronic Heatlhcare Record. My current research activity includes acting as an advisor to different agencies on topics relating to semantic and syntactic interoperability. Other committees that i participate in include the Association of Common European Nursing Interventions and Outcomes (ACENDIO) and the HISI-N Steering Committee. I am the programme chair for the Bachelor of Nursing and Bachelor of Theory Programmes in the School of Nursing and Human Science which are online top up degree programmes. My teaching interests include; Health Informatics Concepts and Terminology Adoption and use of technology enhanced learning resources in undergraduate and post graduate education
Research Interests:
My key research interests include the development and use of clinical concepts, terminology and health informatics standards within health care records. My PhD was on the development of archetypes for future shared records of care which are patient centred. A key principle underpinning the design of the prototype archetypes was to capture pertinent data relating to patient centred outcomes and to involve the patient in the decision making process of their care to facilitate self care management. Current research includes the development of technology enhanced learning resources on the Electronic Healthcare Record (EHR) and will when complete offer an online resource for health care professionals on the EHR.
