Biographical Details:

Raphaela has held a diverse range of clinical, managerial and academic posts in both the UK and Ireland and specialised in emergency department nursing. Currently the Director of Academic Practice at the School of Nursing and Human Sciences Raphaela's role focuses on the deliberate integration of research, education and practice. Raphaela leads practice in the Healthy Living Centre, a school based clinic providing nurse-led services directly to the public. Raphaela completed her PhD last year (2011) entitled ` A case study of emergency department practice ¿ reframing the care of people who self-harm¿. and is currently engaged in the national and international dissemination of the findings of this study. Raphaela is involved in a number of funded projects including the development of research capacity amongst nurse specialists and advanced nurse practitioners in partnership with Beaumont and Connolly Hospitals. She is also part of a team providing an 18 month research service to the HSE on nursing leadership issues. Raphaela represents DCu as a Director of the Beaumont Hospital Board and member of ther Services and Governance Committee. Raphaela is also a memeber of the Board of Management of the Finglas Addiction Support Team (FAST). With FAST Raphaela has recently lead the development of the first module in the country to provide education for recovered drug users so that they are prepared to undertake the community function of recovery coach. Raphaela teaches across the undergraduate and post graduate nursing programmes and is leading the validation and accreditation of a new MSc in Chronic Illness Management.
