Biodegradable Solvents for the Chemical Industry
Biodegradable Solvents for Invent DCU websiteThis technology relates to ionic liquid (ILs) based biodegradable solvents for chemical and pharmaceutical synthesis. These ionic liquids, which are based on an alkyl-imidazolium cation core, have enhanced biodegradability and reduced toxicity relative to existing imidazolium based ILs. ILs may be used as green solvents for the chemical, pharmaceutical, biofuel and biomass industries.
This technology is available via the DCU Licence Express Scheme.

Ionic Liquid Solvents (Chiral) for Invent DCU websiteThis technology relates to chiral ionic liquids (CILs) which may be used as novel solvents, in particularly for organic synthesis. The CILs have the potential to induce asymmetry into substrates or catalysts in a variety of organic transformations. A number of the compounds have low antimicrobial and low antifungal toxicities and are also biodegradable.
This technology is available via the DCU Licence Express Scheme. 

Catalytic Olefination Methodology
Catalytic Olefination for Invent DCU websiteCatalytic olefination methodologies designed to be user-friendly, robust and selective with a low environmental footprint. Focus is on the design of catalytic distereo- and enantioslective procedures. Methodologies include the first catalytic Wittig reaction; catalytic in phosphine, this utilizes an organosilane that chemoselectively reduces a phosphine oxide precatalyst to phosphine. This is a transition/heavy metal free catalytic olefination process which to date has been applied to the synthesis of 22 disubstituted and 24 trisubstituted olefins.
