With DCU Apps your smart phone has never been more useful. Use your email and other applications on the go on your Android, iPhone, Blackberry or Windows Phone. Receive on the go notifications about emails and calendar alerts so you never miss a meeting again. 

Android phones running 2.3 or older will be unable to use DCU Apps through the Gmail application. Login using your phone’s browser.

Advantages of browser access:

  1. Easy access to DCU Apps without any configuration needed.
  2. No need to meet policy requirements as below as no data is downloaded to your phone.

Disadvantages of browser access:

  1. You must login each time you access the applications.
  2. You will not receive notifications of new emails or calendar updates - you must check for them manually.

Staff Mobile Policy for Dedicated Apps

Using dedicated applications on your phone downloads data locally to the phone. Your mobile device must therefore meet certain requirements to access DCU Apps in this way. This policy is designed to protect DCU data from unauthorised access. If you do not wish to subscribe to this policy please access DCU Apps from your browser as above.

Policy requirements:

  • Android users need to install and setup the Google Apps Device Policy app on their devices.
  • Device data must be encrypted.
  • All devices require a screen password.
  • Device passwords must contain letters or numbers. (No special characters)
  • Device passwords must be at least 4 characters long.
  • Screen lock timeout must not be greater than 5 minutes.
  • Lock screen widgets must be disabled.

Advantages of dedicated applications:

  1. DCU password is saved after initial setup. No need to re-enter your DCU password when using applications.
  2. Optional notifications available for new emails and calendar events.

Disadvantages of dedicated applications:

  1. You must enter your four character password each time you use your phone (after five minutes inactivity).

apple icon Staff iPhone:  ISS recommend that you use the official Gmail app for your DCU Apps email account. Some of the email apps that are pre-installed on mobile device can have issues loading email correctly.

Once you have installed the Gmail app on your iPhone or iPad;

  • open the official Gmail App
  • enter your DCU email address and password
  • login
