DCU Voicemail System - Meridian & Nortell Phones

To help you use the Meridian & Nortell voicemail effectively we have compiled a set of instructions containing the following information:

 Getting a new Mailbox 

Getting a new Mailbox

  1. Please email the ISS helpdesk at https://iss.servicedesk.dcu.ie or call 5007, to request a password
  2. Dial 5990 or press the Voice Mail key
  3. Enter your mailbox number (extension number)
  4. Press #
  5. Enter your new password
  6. Press #
  7. You will now get a message welcoming you to your mail box and telling you that you must now change your password, you will be told to "enter a new password"
  8. Enter your new password (please note security information below)
  9. Press #
  10. Re-enter your new password
  11. Press #

For security reasons:

  1. You can change your password as often as required. (However the new password may not be one that you have previously used)
  2. To help keep your mailbox secure you should choose a password that is not easily discovered
  3. You may not use your extension number or obvious sequences such as 11111 and 12345 in the number you choose
  4. The number must be at least five digits
 Logging into your Mailbox 

Logging into your Mailbox

Your Voice mailbox can be accessed from any touch-tone phone anytime anywhere.

To log in from any DCU phone

  1. Dial 5990 or press the Voice Mail key
  2. Enter your mailbox number (extension number)
  3. Press #
  4. Enter your password, then press #

To log in from outside DCU:

  1. Dial 7005990
  2. Enter your mailbox number
  3. Press #
  4. Enter your password, then press #
 Changing your password 

Changing your password

For security reasons:

  1. You must change your password from the one you were first assigned.
  2. You can change your password as often as required. (However the new password may not be one that you have previously used)
  3. To help keep your mailbox secure you should choose a password that is not easily discovered.

  2. Press 8 4
  3. Enter your old password
  4. Press #
  5. Enter your new password (this must be at least five digits)
  6. Press #
  7. Enter your new password again
  8. Press #
 Greetings 

Recording Greetings

Callers to your Mailbox will hear one of two greetings:

  1. External greeting, for callers from outside DCU
  2. Internal greeting, for callers from extensions in DCU

If you only record an external greeting, it covers both the internal and the external greeting. You may amend them as often as you like.

To record your internal and external greetings:

  1. Log into your voice mailbox
  2. Press 8 2
  3. Press 1 for external greeting or 2 for internal greeting
  4. Press 2, if you want to hear the current greeting
  5. Press 5 to record. Wait for the tone before you start to speak
  6. Press # to end the recording

When you have finished recording, you can play the greeting, re-record it, delete it, or exit.

  1. To play the greeting you recorded, press 2
  2. To re-record the greeting, press 5 while at the beginning of the greeting. Record the new greeting and press # to end the recording
  3. To delete one of your greetings, press 7 6 at the greeting [you cannot delete the standard system greeting.]
  4. To exit, press 4

To record a temporary greeting:

  1. Log into your voice mailbox
  2. Press 8 2 3
  3. Press 5 to record. Wait for the tone before you start to speak
  4. Press # to end the recording
  5. Press 9 to record the expiry date

Setting call divert within greeting

It is possible to setup an extension that callers can be diverted to, if they press '0' during a greeting.

Log into your Voice Mailbox

Press 8 0 1.

Enter the number that callers may be diverted to.

Please note, this number should be the school secretary or a designated colleague, not main reception.

To help you use the Avaya IP phone voicemail effectively we have compiled a set of instructions containing the following information:

 To change your temporary voicemail password. 

To change your temporary voicemail password.

  1. Press the Voicemail/message button
  2. Login using the temporary password
  3. Scroll down to ‘Passcode’ using the Navigation arrows –  Press ‘Select’ button
  4. Enter  temporary password again, press done
  5. You should now see the following messages on the phone screen:
    • Set Passcode
    • New Passcode
    • Cancel
  6. Key in the new password.  It must be at least 6 digits long. 
  7. Press Save
  8. Screen should briefly display the message “Changed”
  9. Press Exit to return to main screen.
  10. To record a greeting on an Avaya IP phone such as the 1608 handset. 
  11. Pick up handset or press the Speaker button

  1. Pick up handset or press the Speaker button
  2. Enter your password
  3. Press ‘Voicemail/Message’    button
  4. Scroll down to ‘Greeting’ using the Navigation arrows –  Press ‘Select’ button
  5. Press ‘Listen’ button  to listen to existing or default recording
  6. Press ‘Record’ button  to record new greeting, press ‘Stop’ to complete the recording
  7. You will need to submit the new recording to make it active,
  8. Press ‘More’ to see additional options.
  9. Press ‘Submit’ to make the new greeting active.
  10. Hang up or press the ‘Phone/Exit’ button to exit when complete.
 To listen to a message on an Avaya IP phone such as the 1608 handset.

  1. Pick up handset or press the Speaker button
  2. Enter your password
  3. Press ‘Select’ to listen to messages. 
 To access the voicemail from an external number.

  1. Dial (01)-7008040
  2. You will be prompted for your extension number and password.
