School of Law & Government

MA Information Sessions

DCU’s School of Law and Government offers a suite of taught MAs in the field of international affairs:

Information sessions for those interested in learning more about our MAs commencing in September 2012 are scheduled to take place as follows:

  • Wednesday, 25 April at 2pm in QG21 (on the ground floor of DCU Business School)
  • Wednesday, 2 May at 7pm in QG21 (on the ground floor of DCU Business School)

These sessions will cover the course structures, including discussion of core and optional modules, assessment procedures, and application procedures, and will be followed by a Q&A with the Programme Directors.

These programmes are delivered by expert staff actively researching in these areas and with the widest choice of specialist options of any Irish university.

The programmes provide an interdisciplinary view of international affairs, with modules on aspects of international politics, international law, international security, international organisations, regional affairs, and political economy providing insights into how the international system operates. The programmes are structured to incorporate active learning opportunities in the form of class debate, simulations, and field trips. Central to the programmes is a guest lecture series where students get the opportunity to engage with leaders in the field of international affairs, including diplomats, judges of international tribunals, members of NGOs, and eminent scholars.

The School of Law and Government is responsible for producing two scholarly publications annually, the student-edited International Scholar and the newly–established Socio-Legal Studies Review, which offer students the chance to gain unique experience in the research, writing, and editing of professional quality articles and the publication of a scholarly journal. The School runs a very successful mooting programme, which offers students the opportunity to compete in intervarsity and international competitions on various aspects of law.

The School also houses two vibrant research centres, the Centre for International Studies and the Socio-Legal Research Centre, which regularly organise seminars and other events on various aspects of international affairs that are open to the student population.

Our graduates have gone on to successful careers in various fields, including in Government agencies, the NGO sector in Ireland and abroad, journalism, academia, and international institutions such as the United Nations and the European Union.
