DCU sweeps the boards at the National Student Media Awards
On Thursday 26th April at the Ballsbridge Hotel, the heart of student media in Ireland congregated at the Smedia Awards. Dermot Whelan from RTÉ and 98fm hosted the evening, which was organised by Oxygen. DCU swept the boards by winning seven awards, more than any other college. From these 7 awards, 5 winners came from DCUfm while The College View won the People's Choice Award and written journalism in Irish.
The individual winners are as follows:
Radio - Arts/Features: Darren Regan, Ruth Jephson, Brian McEvoy - Preloaded, DCUfm
Radio - News/Current Affairs: Barry Lenihan, DCUfm
Radio DJ - Darren Regan, DCUfm
Best Written, Audio or Visual work on Science or Education - Cian MacMahon and Ciaran O'Connor, DCUfm
People's Choice Award - The College View.
Iriseoireacht i nGaeilge (ScrÃofa) - Frances Mulraney
Journalism relating to road safety - Barry Lenihan, Ciaran O' Connor.
It was a great event and once again displayed the huge amount of media talent that's present in DCU.
