3U Academics visit Uganda
A 3U Partnership delegation consisting of Dr Sandra O'Neill, DCU School of Nursing, Dr Kevin McGuigan, RCSI and Dr Thomas Strong, NUI Maynooth has recently visited Uganda to examine the possibility of future research collaboration on solar water disinfection (SODIS) projects in the region.
The SODIS method, used by over five million people worldwide, works by exposing contaminated water to sunlight. The UV-radiation of the sun kills the organisms that cause waterborne disease and helps save lives throughout the developing world.
The aim of the field trip, to solar disinfection projects in the Makondo District of Masaka Province, was to examine the possibility of future research collaborations in the region as part of research opportunities in the Joint Institute of Global Health funded through the 3U Partnership, a collaboration between DCU, the RCSI and NUI Maynooth.
