Ideas for a Better Dublin

The Lord Mayor, Cllr Andrew Montague, has launched Dublin Fifth Province (D5P), a new citizen engagement initiative exploring ideas for a better Dublin. The project, delivered by DCU Office of Civic Engagement on behalf of the Creative Dublin Alliance, has been set up to draw on citizens' ideas for improving the city over the coming years. It invites people who have an interest in the future sustainability of Dublin to take part in online discussion forums, respond to surveys and help to choose future topics for discussion. The best ideas contributed to the website will be presented to local government in Dublin to inform planning over the next fifteen years.

Dr. Deiric O'Broin, the project's director, based in Dublin City University, said, "The approach that we have developed in partnership with our colleagues in the Creative Dublin Alliance provides a fantastic example of how universities can actively engage with individual citizens and communities, facilitate robust debate and help shape the development of the city region in the coming years. D5P shows how the research expertise in our universities can be used to address many of the complex social, economic and civic issues faced by the city region."

To get involved, visit the Dublin Fifth Province website, www.5thprovince.ie, where the current topic for debate is Cycling. Dublin City Council, in conjunction with Rothar, is offering the prize of a Rothar bicycle to one lucky user who registers on the website before the end of June 2012.
