Professor Patrick C Flood, Professor of Organizational Behaviour at DCU Business School has been announced as the eighth most influential international thinker in human resource management. The only Irish academic to feature in the HR Most Influential 2012, nominators cited Professor Flood's ''forward thinking in human resource management''

Sponsored by HR Magazine, this annual award recognises twenty academics from leading universities worldwide who have made contributions to international thought leadership in human resources. To be shortlisted in this category, nominees are chosen because they have spurred new thinking, been influential within and beyond their organisations, contributed to the effectiveness and relevance of ideas and practice and demonstrated commercial impact.

In accepting his award Professor Flood said,

"I have the pleasure of working at DCU Business School where I am a member of the vibrant HRM and Organizational Psychology group. The energy, effort and intellectual stimulation provided by my colleagues has made this award possible. I am very pleased to accept it on their behalf. I would also thank the HR practitioners who voted for me and my doctoral students for their support."

Dr Anne Sinnott, Executive Dean of DCU Business School congratulated Professor Flood on his achievement,

"I am delighted that Patrick has been recognised for his forward thinking in human resource management. We are fortunate that Patrick shares this thinking so freely with both students and staff in DCU Business School where his leadership in this area is remarkable."

The 2012 list was drawn up bearing in mind two key factors. First, candidates were measured against a 2011-2012 timeframe to ensure that their influence has been noteworthy during that year. Second, the list includes individuals whose work is grounded in academia, represents a cumulative body of work and is accessible and relevant to practitioners. This year's selection process provided advance notification of those shortlisted and invited member organisations to vote for the leaders they consider to have had the greatest impact moving HR forward.

Professor Flood is the author of 14 books on leadership and change, over 40 articles in world leading journals and over 100 conference papers. Much of his current research is concerned with the impact of HRM on organizational and hospital performance. He is a previous winner of the DCU Presidents Award for Research and a former Fulbright Scholar at the University of Maryland at College Park. He maintains close links to industry and the professions through executive education and consulting.
