International Science Journal NATURE features DCU PhD programme

A special feature in the prestigious international science journal, Nature, has highlighted PhD training at Dublin City University in an article on structured study for postgraduate students.

The article explores how DCU, among other European institutions, has introduced structured doctoral programmes that broaden students' education. The Director of the BioAT (Bioanalysis & Therapeutics) Structured PhD programme, Dr Christine Loscher and one of the BioAT students, Kathy Kennedy, explain how this new approach to doctoral study benefits both student and academic. BioAT is a collaborative, inter-institutional 4-year structured PhD programme, funded by the Higher Education Authority. The programme brings together the complementary expertise of researchers from Dublin City University, the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, National University of Ireland, Maynooth and Institute of Technology, Tallaght. It is an integrated, flexible and student-centric programme which enables students to broaden their skills base and career opportunities through participation in high quality research, advanced training, personal and professional development, and exposure to an innovative, translational research environment.
