Addressing the international sales skills gap

DCU Ryan Academy, in partnership with BTSI, has announced a new suite of international sales programmes to complement their existing sales education portfolio.  As with all of the Ryan Academy’s Sales Education programmes, these new programmes focus on sales as the key driver of growth within Irish export organisations by improving sales skills, knowledge and competence.  The programmes were developed in response to calls from Irish business leaders for a concerted effort to address Ireland’s growing sales skills deficit.

Investing in the sales function is long overdue for many Irish organisations.  The Ryan Academy’s innovative response is to provide access for all sizes and types of organisations struggling to create and maintain growth to practical, proven and performance enhancing sales education.  As many Irish organisations seek growth opportunities in international arenas it is vital that they up-skill their sales leadership capability to ensure that they capitalise on their investment in global markets.

Attending the launch at Enteprise Ireland was Ian Talbot, CEO Chambers Ireland, who commented that,

“Sustainable growth doesn’t happen by accident.  Relevant, leading edge training in all disciplines is essential to revitalise global economic growth and the launch of these programmes targeting international sales skills is a critical component and welcome addition to the tools available to professionals in this area.”

This sentiment is echoed by Niall Olden, Managing Partner at Kernel Capital,

“The key to growth of our small open economy is the ability of our companies large and small to deliver increasing levels of exports of world class products and services.  The importance of innovative research and development is well recognized yet, it is the ability to sell the resulting products and services that is key.  This initiative by EI, DCU and Chambers Ireland is significant and will have a positive impact on International Sales education in Ireland.  Kernel Capital and the VC community welcome this timely initiative and wholeheartedly support it."

The programmes are delivered using a blended methodology, which minimises out of office time to only 4 days over 12 months.   At the core of the sales programme design is a dedication to transfer sales skill, knowledge and competence directly to the workplace, to dramatically improve sales team performance and sales management capability.
