DCU students jet off to upskill

Seven DCU students are travelling across the Atlantic to take up internships in Washington DC, Charleston, South Carolina and Kingston, Jamaica.

Lorcan O’Cathain (BA in International Relations) will join a group of 30 students working in Washington DC for eight weeks. He will be based in the office of Congressman Peter King.

The Washington-Ireland Program for Service and Leadership is a six-month program of personal and professional development that brings outstanding university students from Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland to Washington D.C. for summer work placements and leadership training.  Students gain invaluable experience placed in offices across the Washington area representing government, businesses and non-profit organisations.

Bennett Hospitality offers internships to four final-year Business Studies students every year, offering them the opportunity to gain practical experience in the hospitality industry in the United States.  This summer, Jordan Farrell, Martha Behan, Darren Allen and Jamie Gill will spend ten weeks in Charleston, South Carolina gaining valuable professional experience as they rotate through all areas of the hotel from operations to business development, human resources and finance. 

Jona Kalemi and Aaron Kenny will take up internships with Digicel in Kingston, Jamaica.  Digicel, a telecommunications company with operations located throughout the Caribbean, Central and South America and Asia-Pacific, offers internships to two DCU students every year to gain experience in sectors of the company relevant to their degree programme.
