Stories of There and Then

Travel writer Mary Russell will launch a collection of stories and memories entitled “Stories of There and Then”, the first ever publication from DCU’s Intergenerational Learning Programme.  Mary has written a number of books and articles about her travel experiences. Most recently, her travels have taken her to Israel, Syria and to Iraq for articles published in The Irish Times and the Guardian.

Contributors to the book are older students who have taken part in the Life Writing Module as part of the Intergenerational Programme. Dr Cathy Fowley, editor, explains,

“These are stories of innocence and stories of loss, of love and families, of hopes and disappointments, of courage in the face of adversity, stories about the beauty of the everyday.  They engage us to take the time to experience and value our own lives”.

The book will be launched as part of the Intergenerational Learning Programme Open day on Wednesday 8th October.  Older adults and students who may be interested in volunteering for the programme are invited to attend the event from 1 - 3pm in QG21 in DCU Business School.
