Innovation in the Social Economy

DCU Ryan Academy will launch a new publication, Innovation in the Social Economy:  Emerging Best Practice in Ireland and Wales on Friday 7th November.  Edited by Deiric Ó Broin and Mary Hyland, the book includes contributions from recent graduates of the MSc in Management (Innovation in Social Enterprise) and draws together their research as practitioners in the social enterprise, social finance, venture philanthropy, local government and local development sectors in Ireland and Wales. It examines the impact of innovation on the social economy in both countries and the potential it offers to both the Irish and Welsh economies as they recover from the global crisis of 2008.

The book is a practical and experience-based guide to emerging best practices in social enterprises in both countries. It offers practical tools, guidance, models and cases for implementing effective innovations in social enterprises. The experienced contributors focus on the core competencies needed including leadership, business planning, marketing and sales, accounting and more. The book also contains examples of successes from across the sector including health, education and social services.

Both the MSc programme and the book publication were made possible through funding from The Ireland-Wales Programme 2007-2013.
