Prof Dermot Diamond awarded the Boyle-Higgins Medal and Lecture Award

Congratulations to Professor Dermot Diamond, who has been awarded the Boyle-Higgins Award by the Institute of Chemistry Ireland. Dermot, who is currently director of the National Centre for Sensor Research at DCU, will be giving his award lecture in the Nursing Building, DCU, on Thursday 16th April at 5pm.

The lecture, entitled ‘Chemical sensing with autonomous devices in remote locations: Why is it so difficult and how do we deliver revolutionary improvements in performance? ’ will assess the present status of chemical sensing, with particular emphasis on the spectacular lack of progress in delivering low cost ways to perform measurements in remote locations using autonomous sensing devices that can function reliably for years, without human intervention.

The Boyle Higgins Medal and Lecture Award is presented annually for research work carried out for either pure chemistry, applied and industrial chemistry or chemical education. The award is made for an outstanding and internationally recognised research contribution to the advancement of chemistry by a chemist of any nationality working in Ireland or by an Irish chemist working overseas.
