Speaking Volumes Exhibition Launch

Speaking Volumes Exhibition Launch

Speaking Volumes is a unique project giving people with HIV the chance to share their sound-recorded stories and experiences of living with HIV. The exhibition will be launched in DCU on Monday 9th March after which will be located in the DCU library for one month before commencing an Irish tour.

Speaking Volumes, a UK Lottery funded initiative, is a responsive storytelling project designed to give marginalised people a voice. It allows the public to hear stories of those who feel disenfranchised with the aim of increasing public understanding and reducing stigma. Many of the people involved with the project are speaking publicly about life with the condition for the first time.

The project combines MP3 technology with creative arts to produce 15 innovative talking books. The presentation of the sound recordings in the DCU library will be visually arresting and intriguing and will draw people in to engage with the project and listen to the stories.

Project director, Alice Booth, will officially launch the exhibition in the School of Nursing on Monday 9th March, after which it will be in the DCU library for a period of one month before commencing an Irish tour visiting Dundalk, Drogheda, Navan, Ashbourne, Dublin and Galway until July 2015. This initiative is a joint enterprise between School of Nursing and Human Science, DCU, Dublin AIDS Alliance and POS Now.
