DCU success on the rugby pitch

Congratulations to DCU’s Martin Moore, Paula Fitzpatrick, Sophie Spence and Jamie Heaslip on their contributions to the winning Irish rugby performances this weekend in Edinburgh, which saw both the men’s and women’s senior rugby squads retain their Six Nations titles.

Martin, a second year student undertaking the Bachelor of Civil Law programme, earned his first senior international cap plays year student only last year. Playing alongside Jamie Heaslip, his Leinster team-mate and DCU Engineering graduate, Martin is part of a squad that has made history by winning the championship two years in a row for the first time in 32 years.

Paula Fitspatrick, a PhD researcher with School of Health & Human Performance DEXLIFE project, together with Sophie Spence, DCU’s Rugby Development Officer, played a pivotal role in Sunday’s show-down against Scotland. Sophie was named as the Irish Times Sportswoman of the month for March 2015.  Read the Irish Times article here.

DCU's Ladies Rugby team also enjoyed success this week with a win in the Women's College Finals Division 2A League against Waterford.
