DCU student selected to represent Ireland at Paralympics 2016

Greta Streimikyte, a second year International Relations student in DCU, has been chosen to represent Ireland at the Paralympic Games 2016 in Rio.

This is Greta's first Paralympic Games and the Clonliffe Harriers Athletics Club member will be competing in the T13 1500m.

The Minister of State for Tourism, Transport and Sport, Patrick O'Donovan announced the names of the 44 athletes who will represent Ireland at the games, which are taking place from 7th-18th September.

He said: "I would like to congratulate all of the athletes on their selection for the 2016 Paralympic Games. It is a tremendous honour for each of the 44 athletes who have been selected to represent Ireland at the Rio Games and they can all be very proud of that achievement". He added that he was sure the atheletes would be "wonderful ambassadors for Ireland and their respective sports" and wished them well in their final preparations.

Last month, Greta received a bronze medal for the 1500m at the 2016 Para-Athletics European Championships in Grosseto, Italy. Her next competition is at the IPC Grand Prix event in Berlin from July 14th to 17th.
