Call for papers on social innovation for November conference

The North-South Social Innovation Network is calling for papers for the "Social Innovation: From Lagan to Liffey" conference.

The event will take place on 2 November 2016 at the Dundalk Institute of Technology and will also mark the launch of the new network.

The network is seeking papers on social innovation in the areas of youth, ageing, mental health and justice but are open to other areas also. The papers should be short, punchy presentations that will engage various sectors. It's hoped the papers will also address issues on the North-South Social Innovation Network's agenda including the governance of social innovation, funding and sustainability of social innovation, protecting the uniqueness of social innovation and public procurement of social innovation.

Social innovations can be new strategies, concepts, ideas and structures that meet the social needs of different groups in society. The network realises that social innovation is community driven and they must collaborate with communities and social enterprises to make these new ideas work.

The network describes social innovation as "novel solution to a social problem that is more effective, efficient, sustainable, or equitable than current solutions. The value created accrues primarily to society rather than to private individuals".

Anyone wishing to submit a paper must send on a title and a 50 word abstract by 30 July. This can be emailed to Anthony Soares, Centre for Cross Border Studies at a.soares@qub.ac.uk.

DCU is involved in the network alongside DKIT, Ulster University and Queen's University Belfast.
