DCU spin-out, KantanMT, has been announced as a finalist in the New Frontiers of The Irish Times Innovation Awards 2016.

Leaders in their field, KantanMT has been nominated for their Custom Machine Translation solution, which has been designed to solve the problem of language and thus break down international communication barriers. Providing an advanced automated translation platform, KantanMT helps clients expand their global presence and grow their business. They can translate global content fast, reach new markets quicker than their competitors and create new revenue opportunities.

Tony O’Dowd, Founder and Chief Architect from KantanMT, said: “We are very excited to be recognised as one of the top Irish innovators in the country, this is an incredible honour to be selected as a finalist alongside such powerful innovators. At KantanMT we are constantly looking for ways to innovate and improve, and with more than 40% of our turnover invested in research we will continue to advance the quality of automated translation technology.”

“KantanMT.com is a scalable and intuitive automated translation solution that integrates seamlessly into any translation and localization workflow. It has proven successful in reducing localization costs and increasing translation productivity in large multinationals with global operations and smaller companies that sell to a multilingual audience. KantanMT works with some of the world’s leading brands in Automotive, Software, Government, online retail, travel & hospitality, electronics, engineering and manufacturing industries.”

“We are looking forward to the awards ceremony on 5th October, but even being named as a finalist in this category has demonstrated just how cutting-edge our research and development processes are.”

The Irish Times Innovation Awards aim to recognise and promote the best service, product or operational innovations throughout the island.  The finalists were selected by an independent panel of judges to secure a place at the final and a chance to win the overall ‘Innovation of the Year’ award as well as a unique and high profile communications and advertising package worth €150,000. Category Winners will receive a €10,000 communications package in Business+Innovation and an iPad with a one-year subscription to The Irish Times ePaper.

Innovation Editor, Michael McAleer said: “Both the quantity and quality of the entries this year underlines the level of innovative activity that’s taking place on the island. What we are tasked with is recognising and awarding that talent. Having gone through this year’s entries I think we could have justifiably chosen another 50 companies for the next phase. I don’t envy the final judging panel in choosing the winners. The quality of the innovation in action here is exemplary and we are confident the awards recognise the efforts involved.”

KantanMT will be competing against two other finalists in their category.  The winners of the competition will be announced at an awards ceremony in Dublin on 5th October 2016.
