DCU Athletics Successes - Euro Bronze for Fitzsimons!

Congratulations to John Fitzsimons on winning a wonderful bronze medal over 800m (1.19.15) at the European Junior Championships in Grosseto, Italy at the weekend (John also set a new personal best of 1.48.68 in the semi-final). Elizabeth Morland placed 5th in the Heptathlon at the European Juniors with a new National Senior record of 5801points (282 points from bronze). Liz recorded a new personal best in the Javelin (43.74m) and numerous seasonal bests in all her other events. Joseph Ojewumi anchored the men’s 4 x 100m relay team to 11th overall in 40.89s.

At the IPC World Paralympic Championships in London, Greta Streimikyte ran a seasonal best of 4.47.54, missing out on a bronze medal in the T12/T13 1500m by less than 2 seconds – a fantastic achievement considering that Greta missed the months on February, March and April with a stress fracture injury!
