DCU President offers condolences following the death of Professor Robert Elgie

The death has been announced of Prof Robert Elgie from DCU’s School of Law and Government, at the age of 54. He had been a DCU staff member for nearly two decades.

Responding to news of Prof Elgie’s passing, DCU President Prof Brian MacCraith said:

“It was with deep shock and sadness that I learned of the sudden death of Professor Robert Elgie. His passing is a massive loss for his colleagues, students and friends. During almost 20 years at DCU, Robert made a major contribution to our university and will be remembered as a brilliant academic and a supportive colleague. He was the founding Head of the School of Law and Government, a world-renowned scholar of political institutions and presidentialism, and a member of the Royal Irish Academy. On behalf of the university community, I wish to convey deepest condolences to his family, friends and colleagues at this sad time.”

 It is expected funeral arrangements will be confirmed shortly.
