- 5 March 2008

Wednesday 5 March - Friday 7 March
at DCU campus
Room: AG01, Albert College

20 of the world's experts on fourth-level education are attending.a UNESCO workshop at DCU

I am attaching details of the workshops. If you would be interested in interviewing any of the speakers, please let me know and I can arrange.

One of the speakers you might be interested is Dr Jamil Salmmi, coordinator of the World Bank's tertiary education programme. According to his abstract,

"Governments are becoming increasingly aware of the important contribution that high performance universities make to competitiveness and economic growth. As a result, there is growing recognition of the need to establish world-class universities that can compete effectively with the best of the best. This paper explores what are the challenges involved in setting up globally competitive universities, also called “elite”, or “flagship” universities. The paper starts by attempting to construct an operational definition of a world-class university. It then outlines possible strategies and pathways for establishing such universities".

His talk will cover topics such as university rankings.
