DCU will be closely watching this year’s AIBA World Women's boxing championships in South Korea, where Kilkenny student Claire Grace is representing Ireland in the Welterweight category. Claire, who is placed 10th in the world opened her campaign against on Monday where she got the better of her opponent, Romania's Cristina Stanca, with a score of 39-37 .

Claire, a third year student of Sport Science and Health in DCU’s School of Health and Human Performance, boxes in the 69kg division and is among the top boxers in the world after claiming bronze in the European Championships earlier this year.  She will now go forward to the last 16 of the Championships where she will be back in the ring on Wednesday 19th November.

Meanwhile Ireland is also represented by Olympic Champion Katie Taylor, Michaela Walsh and  Joanne Lambe who make up the four women Irish team . The semi-finals of the World Championships will be aired live on TG4 this Saturday and Sunday and we hope that Claire will be among the medal-winners .
